Children´s book as an strategy for plant conservation

Antenita and the Black Iris

In my book I tell a friendship story between the beautiful black iris and its pollinator, a wildbee called Antenita. Antenita adventures to discover which kind of reward the black iris offer, finding at the end much more.

Our Collection: four children stories

Together with three other authors we created a collection of four stories and wrote the stories in English and in our correspondent mother language. In my case the story is available also in Spanish. The other three books can be downloaded for free in the two languages.

About the project

The idea of this project started during my time as a postdoc at Tel Aviv University at Sapir Lab. The study system of Royal irises that offer shelter to wildbees was a cute story to tell for kids 🙂

This project is supported by COST Action Conserve plants and together with Dr. Marta Berberis, MSc. Karolína Hruškova and Dr. Katarina Soln we created four independent stories about endemic plants from Israel (Iris atropurpurea), Italy (Primula apennina), Czech Republic (Minuartia smejkalii) and Slovenia (Scopiola carniolica). I presented this project to the COST Action in May 2021 and I got supported, Dr. Baiba Pruse, is our main collaborator, and Dr. Ziva Fiser a general coordinator. Later in October I did an STSM at Vigo University at the Divulgare Lab with Luis Navarro. The initial idea was to include four species (plus one of Spain) by Luis Navarro, but at the end he couldn’t participate on the project.
